1. Start with the Right Sewing Machine

First, you don’t need the fanciest model to begin. A reliable, beginner-friendly machine with straightforward stitches is the best place to start. Our team can help you choose one that fits your budget and goals. Richland Sewing Center is an authorized dealer for Janome, Brother, Pfaff, and Husqvarna Viking sewing machines.

Additionally, Richland Sewing Center is a premier sewing machine service center in Tarrant County. Our technicians are certified, highly skilled, and knowledgeable. Estimates are always free, and most repairs are made within a week.

2. Join a Local Sewing Class

Second, learning alongside others is one of the fastest and most enjoyable ways to build and hone your skills. We have classes in Hurst that are designed for beginners, and classes designed for more experienced sewers.

Our education department is headed by Jeannie, who has been sewing most of her life and is well-known in the DFW sewing community. She has taught thousands of students the joy of sewing and loves sharing her passion with others.

New Classes in October – Sewing Basics & Scout Tee

3. Learn the Basic Sewing Skills First

Before diving into big projects, practice threading your machine, winding a bobbin, and sewing straight lines on scrap fabric. Mastering these foundations will give you the confidence to move forward.

Every new machine purchase comes with a free one-on-one machine introduction. We also have a great group class coming up in October called Sewing Basics for Beginners.

4. Choose Creative and Simple Projects, at first

Pillowcases, tote bags, and drawstring pouches are excellent first projects. They help you practice key skills while giving you something useful at the end.

September 26th and 27th, Richland Sewing Center will be hosting the Cook Childrens’s Pillowcase Sew-In. Teachers and students will gather at the shop to sew pillowcases for the hospital. We hope you will sign up and join us in this worthy cause.

5. Invest in Quality Sewing Tools and Accessories

Sharp fabric scissors, straight pins, a seam ripper, and measuring tape are must-haves. Quality tools make sewing easier and more enjoyable.

At Richland Sewing Center, we offer the finest options in sewing machines, as well as top-quality sewing tools, notions, and accessories. Come in and check out our regularly updated inventory.

6. Embrace Mistakes as Learning Opportunities

Every sewist, regardless of experience, makes mistakes. Seam rippers are your friend—think of errors as part of the process, not failures.

The best way to keep growing is to surround yourself with encouragement, resources, and people who share your passion for sewing.

7. Join the Richland Sewing Club

You’ll find all the encouragement, resources, and passionate sewists in the Richland Sewing Club.

With a yearly membership, you’ll enjoy 15% savings on most fabrics, notions, and accessories, plus exclusive member-only coupons and specials. For just $25, it’s a simple way to stay inspired, save money, and be part of a welcoming sewing community.
