Sewing Machine Service and Repairs

Keep your machine running smoothly

Learning with Richland Sewing Center

For more than 40 years, Richland Sewing Center has helped North Texas sewists keep their sewing machines running smoothly. During that time, we’ve serviced countless sewing, quilting, embroidery, and serger machines from across the DFW Metroplex.

While every machine is different, certain repairs appear more often than others. Understanding these common issues can help you recognize when your machine needs attention and potentially prevent more extensive repairs down the road.

Repair #1: Stitching and Tension Repairs

One of the most common reasons customers bring their machines into our service department is poor stitch quality.

These issues often appear as:

  • Skipped stitches
  • Thread bunching underneath the fabric
  • Looped stitches
  • Uneven tension
  • Inconsistent stitch formation

Sometimes the cause is simple, such as an incorrect needle, improper threading, or tension settings that need adjustment. In other cases, the machine may require timing adjustments or professional service to restore proper performance.

When addressed early, these repairs are typically easier to diagnose and correct.

Repair #2: Cleaning and Maintenance Service

The second repair category we see most often isn’t really a repair at all. It’s maintenance that has been postponed for too long.

Over time, sewing machines accumulate:

  • Lint
  • Dust
  • Fabric fibers
  • Pet hair
  • Old lubricant and residue

Even well-cared-for machines experience buildup inside areas that aren’t easily accessible without professional service.

North Texas conditions can contribute as well. Dust and environmental debris have a way of finding their way into machines, especially when they sit unused for extended periods.

As buildup accumulates, sewists may notice:

  •  Reduced performance
  • Increased noise
  • Feeding issues
  • Inconsistent stitching

Regular maintenance helps prevent these problems and extends the life of your machine. Many of the machines we service simply need a thorough cleaning, inspection, and adjustment to return to peak performance.

If you’re interested in routine care, our Spring Sewing Reset guide offers additional tips for maintaining your machine year-round.

Repair #3: Mechanical and Performance Repairs

When a machine starts making unusual sounds, it’s usually trying to tell you something.

Our technicians regularly service machines experiencing:

  • Excessive vibration
  • Knocking or grinding noises
  • Feed system issues
  • Sluggish operation
  • Difficulty sewing through materials that the machine previously handled with ease

These issues can develop gradually, which makes them easy to ignore at first. Many customers tell us they noticed something felt “slightly off” weeks or even months before bringing their machine in.

Mechanical repairs can involve worn components, adjustments to moving parts, lubrication issues, or other internal systems that affect overall performance.

The earlier these concerns are addressed, the better the chances of preventing additional wear.

North Texas Sewists Trust Richland Sewing Center

Sewing machines have changed dramatically over the past four decades, but one thing hasn’t changed: regular service remains one of the best ways to protect your investment.

At Richland Sewing Center, we work on a wide variety of sewing, quilting, embroidery, and serger machines. Our experienced technicians help customers from Hurst, Bedford, Euless, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Fort Worth, and throughout the DFW area keep their machines performing at their best.

Whether your machine needs routine maintenance or more extensive repairs, our goal is always the same: to help you spend more time sewing.

Don’t Wait Until a Small Issue Becomes a Major Repair

Most sewing machine repairs don’t begin with a complete breakdown. They start with small changes in performance that become more noticeable over time.

If your machine is skipping stitches, making unusual noises, struggling to feed fabric, or simply not sewing the way it used to, it may be time for a professional inspection

Addressing problems early can often prevent larger repairs later and help ensure your machine is ready for whatever project comes next.
